YorPower Scores Again
UK independent generator manufacturer YorPower has won a highly competitive tender to supply Rotherham United FC with the standby generator for their new stadium.
The Millers, as they are known, will be moving to their new ground secure in the knowledge that if the mains power fails the new YorPower generator will keep the flood lights on and the pies hot. The team, formed in 1870, whose previous home was the Millmoor Stadium, will soon be enjoying state of the art facilities at the ‘New York Stadium’, so called because the foundry that was originally on the site supplied the cast iron fire hydrants to New York City.
The new stadium will have a 12,000 seat capacity with the design allowing for increased capacity in the future. The estimated cost for the project is in the region of £20m with completion due in summer 2012.
Tony Stewart, Rotherham Utd Chairman, said “The club wants the new venue to be more than a football stadium. Most football clubs struggle to afford their own existence so we thought we would put effort into a seven day a week functionality. We're planning banqueting, weddings, conferences, a gym, hotel and pub”. Clearly with such intense usage the new stadium needs to be sure that it has constant power, that’s where the YorPower generator comes in.
The new generator, a 715kVA standby unit powered by an MTU engine is a design, supply and install full turnkey package and includes fire shut off valve, outlet attenuators including weather louvers, residential exhaust silencer, double skinned fuel pipes and an electronic remote fuel filling system all designed by YorPower specifically for the new stadium. The genset will be delivered and installed by YorPower’s team of specialist engineers.
